Diesel prices in New Zealand change every week. A Fuel To Go card gives you two ways to pay less than the price on the pump. Which one works harder depends on where your vehicles fill up.
New Zealand imports all its diesel, so the price follows the global oil price and the exchange rate. Through 2026 it has at times moved more in a week than it used to in a whole year.
We publish our national diesel prices every week on our national pricing page. Each supplier sets its price for its own week, so the dates on each table can differ.
No. Petrol carries fuel excise duty in the price at the pump. Diesel doesn't. Instead, owners of diesel vehicles pay road user charges separately, based on how far they drive and how heavy the vehicle is.
So the pump price is only part of what a diesel vehicle costs to run.
An off-pump card takes a fixed amount off the pump price wherever you fill up. It's 9c per litre on our BP and Z cards, and 10c on our Mobil card. Each card page sets out where that card is accepted.
A national price card works the other way round. You pay our national price for that week instead of the price on the pump. What you save is the difference between the two on the day.
Usually outside the main centres, where pump prices run higher, and at truckstops. How much it comes to depends on the supplier and the week. That's why we publish the prices rather than a single figure. With Mobil, the national price is the same at service stations and truckstops, because it's already discounted at the service station.
Yes. Truckstops aren't only for trucks. If you're running a van or a ute, check the fuel outlet map for sites on roads you already drive.
It depends on where your vehicles fill up and how much certainty you want. An off-pump card saves you the same amount every time. A national price card moves with the market, so it's worth more in some weeks than others.
If you'd rather not guess, send us a recent fuel invoice. We'll benchmark it against our pricing at the same sites and show you the difference on your own numbers.
It changes every week and differs between suppliers. We publish our national prices for BP, Mobil and Z every week on our national pricing page.
Two ways. An off-pump card takes a fixed 9c or 10c per litre off the pump price, depending on the card. A national price card sets a weekly price you pay instead of the pump price.
No. Owners of diesel vehicles buy road user charges separately from their fuel, based on distance and vehicle weight.
