Why a National Price Fuel Card?
Sometimes National Pricing for fuel is better (e.g. at Truck stops, some regional areas and Premium petrol grades) than a set off pump fuel card discount.
How does National Pricing Work?
This is when you pay the weekly set national price, and your discount is calculated based on the difference between this set weekly national price, and the pump price at the time of your fuel purchase.
We’ll use the Queenstown BP Connect service station as an example.
Example of a Superior National Price Discount:

Pump Price: $2.059
National Price Fuel Card Rate
The discounted National Price at the date of the above example was:
$1.669
With a BP National Price Fuel Card, you pay our discounted national price for that week. This means that your savings will be dependent on the National Price and what the pump price is, and both can vary.
In the example above, the discount received would have been $0.39 per litre.
Off Pump Fuel Card
The discount of 9cpl is off the pump price so in the example above, it would have been:
$2.059
With a BP off pump Fuel Card you will always get 9 cents off the pump price for all fuel purchases, regardless of what the pump price is at the time of the transaction. This means that your discount will always be 9 cents.
In the example above, the discounted rate would have been $1.969, 9 cents per litre off the pump price.
Although the National Prices are adjusted weekly and differ between fuel providers, this pricing option could offer a lower cost for fuel, compared to the standard retail prices. This makes it beneficial for those who frequently refuel in varied locations, especially outside city areas where fuel prices tend to be higher, or at truck stops.
