Do Fuel Cards Work Outside the Main Centres?

Yes. Plenty of rural service stations take fuel cards, including selected independent operators. At Fuel To Go we offer cards on the Mobil, BP and Z networks.

What varies is which card works where. A rural service station can also accept your card without giving you the discount you get elsewhere.

Why does a card work at one independent station but not another?

Some independent stations source their fuel through one of the major suppliers and have an arrangement to accept that supplier's card. So a site may take a Mobil card even when Mobil isn't the name on the forecourt.

Those arrangements vary from place to place. Two stations with the same name on the forecourt sign, an hour apart, may not take the same cards. It's worth checking the site rather than going by the brand.

Does your discount apply everywhere your card is accepted?

Not always. A station accepting your card as payment and that station giving you your usual discount are two different things. Check both before you plan a fill somewhere unfamiliar.

How do you check before you drive out?

Look at the pump or the price board, where the cards accepted are usually listed.

If you can't check in advance, or you're heading somewhere over the holidays you don't normally go, ring us before you set off.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a BP card at a Mobil station in a rural area?

No. Fuel cards work within their own networks. A BP card covers BP and Gasoline Alley sites. A Z card covers Z, Challenge and Caltex. A Mobil card covers Mobil plus selected independents.

In rural areas, does a Mobil card work at every independent station?

Acceptance varies by site, and your usual discount may not apply at all of them. Tell us where you fill up and we'll confirm it.

What if there are no participating stations near my business?

That happens on some farms and remote sites. If you're going through enough fuel, bulk delivery to your own tank is usually the better answer.

Not sure about a station on your route?

Call us on 0800 383 586 with the card you hold and the towns you drive through, and we'll check the stations for you.
